Did you witness the explosion of colors, creativity, and celebration that lit up the streets of Sydney this Mardi Gras? The 2024 parade was a spectacle like no other, but a few floats truly stole the show!
The tradition of floats at Sydney Mardi Gras is as vibrant as the history of the festival itself. Each year, they morph from mere concepts into dazzling displays of artistry, championing the voices and visions of the LGBTQIA+ community. Behind every float is a story of triumph, unity, and the pursuit of equality.
The top 5 (in no specific order – they were all amazing):

Qantas: The Qantas float soared high with its message of inclusivity. Adorned with a rainbow-coloured tail and cockpit, accompanied by a crew representing every color of the pride flag, it symbolised the freedom to love and the joy of flying high with one’s true colors. Originally designed by Qantas crew the Qantas float was once again a standout in this year’s parade.

Optus: Optus celebrated diversity this year with their ‘Dream Boat’. This float sailed its way down Oxford Street, leaving a beautiful trail of bubbles in its wake. Originally built by MNR Constructions in 2023, this float was refurbished to give it some new sparkly touches in 2024.

W Hotels: Luxury met LGBTQIA+ pride with the float by W Hotels this year. It’s the fifth year they have been involved with Mardi Gras, and this year, their float included a huge LED screen, complete with a spectacular dance floor, for a party of inclusivity and equality.

Mecca Max: Beauty in self-expression was Mecca Max’s theme, introducing their ‘Giant eye-lash” float. Their first ever float on the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. A towering eye-lash was a sight to be seen. Built in the Sydney workshop of MNR Constructions, this was another great standout of the 2024.

P&G: The ‘Lead with love’ float from P&G was brilliant. A mixture of colours, lights and dancers with amazing costumes was a huge standout in this year’s parade.
We would like to give a nod to the people who built this one. Well done!
